We are often asked whether or not our nacani CBD products are suitable for horses as well. The answer is – yes, absolutely! Why? Like humans and dogs, horses have an endocannabinoid system, or ECS. This system is responsible for the optimal functioning of the immune system and memory and much mre. In other words, it provides all-round support for the entire body and mind, whether human, dog or horse.

How is our CBD oil made?
Our nacani full spectrum hemp oil with a natural CBD content of 2.8 % or 5.6 % is made out of the entire hemp plant. The THC content is less than 0.2 % – so no need to worry that your horse will get high 😉

Hemp is often used as a natural alternative. One reason for this is that CBD has no serious side effects and is usually very digestible.
How does CBD work in horses?
CBD has primarily uplifting, anxiolytic and supportive properties as well as a calming effect on the entire organism.
Horses are flight animals that quickly react hypersensitively to dangerous situations or stimuli and feel frightened or overwhelmed. They then often fall into a state of anxiety that can escalate into panic. If this alertness builds up frequently and violently in the body, it is very unhealthy for the animal in the long term. CBD can calm your horse’s organism and help it to get out of the situation more quickly or to avoid falling into it in the first place.
What is CBD often used for in horses?
CBD is often given to horses for the following psychological and/or physical problems:
- for anxiety
- to promote mobility
- for a balanced skin and coat environment
- to support the digestive tract
- for calming stress and nervousness, e.g. when loading into the traile
But even if your horse is doing well, you can use CBD to do something good for your animal. For example, it can have a positive effect on its coat and the quality of its hooves and support the body as it ages. Despite the many positive effects, CBD is of course not a miracle cure. In the case of more serious illnesses and/or the intake of medication, we recommend consulting a vet beforehand to determine the correct dosage.
CBD for horses – What is the right dosage?
A high dosage recommendation of 10 – 15 mg CBD per 100 kg of the horse’s body weight is usually assumed. We recommend starting with half or less, especially for CBD newbies, and then slowly increasing the dosage. This allows the body to get used to the new product. How can you give CBD to horses?
It depends on the product you want to give your horse.
- CBD oil – Our CBD oils can be given directly into the horse’s mouth. This is where the mucous membranes absorb it most quickly. If your horse doesn’t like that, you can also mix the oil into their food.
- CBD snacks – Our CBD snacks, i.e. the nacanis and nacani MINIS, are also suitable for horses in the vegan version. They are ideal as a small snack or reward between meals. They contain banana, coconut flour, hemp flour, raspberry and blueberry pomace, linseed flour and our hemp oil with its natural CBD content. All ingredients come from sustainable, controlled agriculture. The nacanis have 3 mg CBD per ball. Horses get approx. 3 – 5 balls per 100 kg daily. The MINIS have only 1 mg CBD per ball. Horses therefore get approx. 10 – 15 balls per 100 kg daily.
